Maybach Music Part 3

Yeah, took off for a minute but we back at it. Took off for a minute and you will see why soon! But for now, here's a hat tilt to the combination of T.I., Rick Ross, Erykah Badu, and Jada for Maybach Music Part 3. Might be late news to some, but it's well worth putting light on. Been noticing a pattern with songs I'm drawn to, and it has alot to do with the transitions, instruments, and slight effects that put the listener into a zone where they can visualize, or put a picture before them of what's happenin in the song. If you don't understand what I mean, here are two other songs besides the highlighted one that uses "scene" transitions, cinematic background sound, and an orchestral feel to capture the listener. Enjoy! Stay cool by the way, literally..lol

This is the type of beat that should have your bopping...If it's not, recheck your musical strategy..lol.. Support Dopeness always!

Jet Set- Audacity to Dream

Keep your ear to the streets, clear your blurry vision, and get ready to get some new music in your rotation.. I posted a previous song from the album, Audacity to Dream, and I got some good feedback.. PLUS, I don't post anything if it's whack..LOL.. Here's homies words to people new to the music.."Don't wait for radio spins and lame radio Dj's to validate this album or my music (Damn SMH)...Understand were not apart of the music industry ...This is completely a independent project...I signed myself to my own label I own my masters...we work hard..if you not going to buy it at least go listen...But Brooklyn I did it for yall first." So with that said, I'm gonna go ahead and post my next favorite track from the album... It's called "Jet Set." Yeah, like I said, don't miss out on GOOD MUSIC and wonder why your Ipod is getting boring..lol. Just my opinion though. Hit me up with any interest... Here's the link to the album by the way...

Brooklyn Boy!

Found it important to speak on it not just because we're from Brooklyn, and proud of it, but because this song just adds to the dopeness of the borough. In my opinion, this song needs to be the anthem for the summer.. For those who don't appreciate a good song when you hear it, it will be whack, but for those who know good music, take a good listen. Feedback is good, and more important than that, support is best! Keep on checkin in and join the movement! Sidebar, while we're on this Brooklyn tip, I recommend you get yourself a bottle of Absolut Brooklyn. Been out for about a month and a half, but it's a "Limited Edition" bottle designed by Spike Lee. It has an apple and ginger flavor to it...Niceee... More important, a percentage of those proceeds go to Habitats for Humanities in the development of affordable housing in Bed-Stuy. SO, get a little buzz for a good cause! LOL. Want a bottle? Hit us up...;)Enjoy the tune...

Jay Electronica Show- The Free One!

Made that move over to Red Hook park on Tuesday to check Jay Electronica as he performed a couple of tunes at the Summer Stage concert series. Brought out a nice eclectic mix of people in the crowd, some a bit TOO hyped to see em, but overall, a dope show indeed. Take Heed as you watch these blackberry videos, you're watching a dope MC at work! And nuff respect to the dude who came on to perform a reggae remix to the Exhibit C tune! THAT my friend, needs to be recorded...lol

Fancy- Drake feat. T.I. & Swizz Beats

Warm weather for the weekend, beautiful people on the streets, and a good vibe in the air! What better way to enjoy then to rock out to a VERRRRY DOPE TUNE from Drake's new album, "Thank Me Later." Definitely a shout out to all of the women out there with this song. I see this being on steady rotation at parties and on the radio. Btw, my suggestion is that you get the real album because Drake for sure put in some good work on it. But for now, get familiar with the song, and no, I'm not "debuting" the song, but I'm just trying to put ya onnnnn!!!! ;) The name of the song is "Fancy"....

Neon Valley Street- TOUGH!

Gotta thank Karisma for putting me on to this song.. The song is by a very very talented young lady by the name of Janelle Monae. It's off of her new album, "The ArchAndroid" which was recently released. Upon giving it a once over, I almost immediately fell in love with the song. The first few seconds of the track has a strong string intro, giving the listener an old 1930's, 40's soundtrack feel, and then her voice just slides into the track and keeps the listener captivated. I promise that if you're a musical enthusiast, you will feel the same. Enjoy! Stay dope...

New Banner...

Thought it would be cool to make the banner for the blog based on Lupe's new album cover, Lasers. Reason being? Amongst all the album covers he could have done, he kept it simple, but maintained a dopeness to it. So I said, hey, I might as well try this out. Just as his cover has a meaning to it, so does our banner. Very simple, but has meaning. So without further ado, scroll up to the very top! Haha.. Oh, got some pretty dope songs to put ya'll on to.. Check the next post! We link...

October's Very Own x Jamaica

Some people won't like the video! That's okay.. I think this video is dope and the reason being? Because it's in Jamaica and features Mavado....!!!! (Whoiiiiii)..The story line is pretty clear in the video so need to go into the logistics except there is a bad female in there..whew..smh... It has a pretty dope "gritty" feel to the film, maintaining the TRUE authentic feel a di Gully Side! lol. Like I said, good job with this one here, and while I'm at it, I'm gonna readily assume that during the shooting of this video, they found the time to record Wayne Marshall's song, "My Heart".. Produced by October's Very Own team... TOUGH tune! Trust that.. Just click play. That's all..*shrugs shoulders*..lol...

P.S.> To the haters, allow me to say this, please understand that Surround Soundz is a family, a cohesive unit. So if you have any issues with one member, you have an issue with the family! Address your problems to the family!

Thanks to DrakeVevo

Wayne Marshall: My Heart (BIG TUNE!)

Stop The Party!!!!

Nothing harder than a party rocker to start the summer off right! Who better to do it than the dynamic duo of Busta Rhymes & Swizz Beats. Right off the back, it's a head rocker when the beat drops. This song will add to their already consistent relationship when putting music together. Remember New York Sh#t? Classic. So here it is, another classic for New York. Enjoy!

Lupe Fiasco feat. Alicia Keys

And while we're talking about Alicia Keys, might as well make a segue into her song with Lupe Fiasco off his new album, Lasers. The name of the song is Lover to the Beat. Definitely can feel an oldschool vibe to it with that an intro, but with an uptempo, current flow. Not only does Lupe completely rip the song, but Alicia's voice keeps the feeling mellow. Sidebar, notice that she says in the song that she only has 3 minutes left to get it poppin on the dancefloor! And the song was REALLY @ 3 minutes on the track!!! That's my nerdy tidbit for the day.lol

Unthinkable- Alicia Keys Video

Yeah, best believe this video is touching on alot of issues, but overall, captures through overall theme of the song which issssss(drumroll please).... Doing the unthinkable! Very nice story line and if you're actually paying attention, can capture you for the moment....Might I add, Alicia Keys is looking veryyyy good, as usual.

Find Your Love (New Drake Single)

New Drake single, Find Your Love! Feeling it or nah? In my opinion, it's gonna catch on very quickly, and although it's probably not gonna be the best song on his new album, it will def be one of those songs that you're gonna see the masses singing @ a party! For the people who don't like the song, I could see how you don't like it. It's a love, hate thing with the song so I'm on both sides of the fence about it. Anywho, it was produced by Kanye for his 808's and Heartbreak album, but it didn't make the final cut for his album. So Drake took it. Why not!?! Respect how he took a leftover beat and essentially has a hit on hand. I guarantee that if you give it a few listens it will stick with you. The only thing that would make the song harder is to add another voice on the song, either singer or rapper.... Btw, enjoy the warm weather this weekend! See ya'll out there...

A Guide to a Dope Playlist!

Top of the day folks. Been rockin out to some new music, but honestly, there are some staples that will always be on rotation on my ipod. In no particular order, I announce to you, the dope man's playlist part A! Lol. Strictly a chill playlist, but my next group will switch it up! And sidebar, I tip my hat to the Bulls..smh. They did real well against the Cav's, but Lebron started beastin at the end of the game. Calls against the Bulls were a little shaky, but that's what you can expect with homecourt advantage. It's whatever though bcuz I'm not a fan of the Cav's...But anywho... Enjoy the playlist! You got some suggestions, hit us up...surroundsoundzproductions@gmail.com... ;)

Surround Soundz Blend Mix..Partake!

If you ever had a question with whether or not music is all tied in, we're gonna prove it. Alot of the very instruments, drums, tempo, style within deep house, brazilian drum, soca, kompa, etc, are very similar. A tempo with a BPM around 126 usually keeps the mood of the music uptempo, and when it comes to a party, keeps it moving. Here's a mix we've put together, a blend of soca, soulful house, and brazilian drum. We enjoyed it and I'm sure you will too. Partake, surround soundz style! Stay dope! (REMEBMER TO TURN DOWN YOUR SPEAKERS OR IT WILL SOUND LIKE A PARTY AT YOUR DESK, FAIR WARNING) lol.. :p

Mirror Dance (Remix)! Be Informed...

Ever heard of Oveous Maximus? If you haven't, no sweat, we didn't either, but be aware, homey has a good thing going. First heard him on a song with a cd with no label, so i had NO clue who it was, but just stumbled upon it this past week. The name of the song is Mirror Dance by Afefe Iku, a HIGHLY deep soulful house song. So many drums and layers to a song that can def keep a party moving...To add to the dopeness, Oveous did a remix with a spoken word segment on it and it just took the song to another level. So shout out to him and be on the look out for his music.. Just thought you should be informed! Here's the blog. Enjoy!

Just An Ordinary Dayyyyy...

Could be the warm weather, could be the allergies, could just be that this song is just dope.. Or it could be all of the above..lol. This has got to be one of THEEEE hardest house tunes out. And no, I'm not late on the song, had it for awhile. It's just that it's about time we posted it. Enjoy... In the mean time, somebody pass that Claritin to the left!

Distant Relatives...

Nas x Damian Marley... New Album.."Distant Relatives"... Set to be Released sometime in May 2010.. Good Energy.. Tour Dates already confirmed... Coming to Brooklyn... July 31st.. Williamsburg Waterfront... DEFINITELY goinig to be popping... Now that we got those scattered thoughts out the way, be prepared to vibe out to a pretty powerful collaboration between classic hip hop, concious vibes, and dancehall. This isn't the first time that they have put their talents to use in the song "Road to Zion", from Damian's most recent album... Moving forward, the fusion should prove to be interesting, not to mention the fact that their show is DEFINITELY gonna be dope. Ever seen the Williamsburg Waterfront? If not, google it and see what we're talking about. Best believe it will be a classic show, not to be missed. Enjoy the selection of media as we sign off on this one for now...

Erykah Badu's Baaaack...!

And let me mention, Erykah Badu's new album, "New Amerykah, Part 2: Return of The Ankh" is what we needed as the warm weather begins to approach us. Put the loud party songs and henny (nothing wrong with that btw!) aside for a second and vibe to some soulful tunes that she's laid out in this album. As usual, her songs reach down into the belly of what neo-soul/concious/rnb should be. Her distinguishable voice lays down over a host of beats and drums that will keep your heading rocking, track for track. If you don't agree, so what! lol. Deal with it, dopeness is upon us once again. :)

Where We've Been At....

We've been around, but as we all know, there is no growth without work. So we've been behind the scenes, putting together some new opportunities and hopefully within the next month, you'll see what we mean! As of recent, we just played in our first football tournament, all 15 of us, and we came close to the chip! Almost had it in our grasps but it slipped away. It's all good because come next tournament, we're gonna have it wrapped up. Big thanks to all the supporters of the Surround Soundz team and all of the people who wanted us to succeed. Enough yapping about that. Be on the look out for some Surround Soundz mixes as we post them, and don't forget to tell a friend! ;)

ThankYouThankYouThankYou..lol

Thanks to everybody who came out to support Surround Soundz this past weekend... Some funny stories to walk away with and a learning experience all around... Maker's, or Bar 29, or what have you was a good situation on Friday..! Alot of cool people, good music, good drinks, and a very competitive pool table kept the evening at just what we expected it to be. Relaxed, yet really fun.. And no one expected people to dance, but they did...hey why not! lol. Please believe that it goes down again this Friday with Surround Soundz... Expect some new faces, more competition at the table, and more good music from the team. Saturday was a great look for us too... With a rotation of four different dj's, it can be a confusing situation, but actually, it was a smooth transition between all of us. But we HAVE to say it, alot of the party goers could tell when we were spinning and when we weren't. One of the dj's actually asked us to stop going in..! LOL... But hey, that's apart of working together as a team right? *shrugs shoulders*..lol. BTW, shout out to Tom, the last dj for the night. This dude ripped it for the last set of the night, so shout out's to him. Real Talk! Til we link up again, thanks again for the support fam... Peace

We'll be spinning from 9pm to about 2am opening up for Funkmaster Flex, so definitely come thru. The address is 268 West 47th Street, right on the corner of 8th avenue. Be sure to come out and support the family as we grow! Remember, "we're all about progression" so as we expand, we want you to be there with us! Hope to see you on Saturday, and don't forget, it's FREE! Have questions, email us at surround_soundz@yahoo.com. O yeah, and tomorrow, we keep it chill at Maker's afterwork so don't miss out.... !

SSZ signing off... Peace...

Just Chillin'

Come get your pool game on, grab a cheap drink, watch a game, and vibe with Surround Soundz as we chill this Friday at Maker's. Definitely a good look to end the work week. Friendly faces along with a full size pool table will definitely keep the night interesting! Whether you're coming from work, just hanging out, or in the area, stop by and see what's good this Friday... Tell a friend to tell a friend because it's the right way to chill after a stressful work week. No large crowds, no overly loud music, just relaxation... See you there! And bring your pool game!

The Beat Machine- MPC

The MPC is one of the foremost instruments in the music industry used to create a large majority of the beats heard nowadays. It stores, records, and utilizes samples for creation of rhythyms. It can loop samples, beats, sounds, and more. It allows the beat maker the ability to chop up a sample, mix and match, and when the right sounds have been blended properly, record it. It’s a very good tool to have when producing because it’s very moldable to the sound that the beat maker is looking for. Once the right drum kit and tempo is in place, the sky is the limit with where the beat can go! Of course, there are different models and some have more features than others, but overall, this is a must have tool for the beat enthusiast. Just watch how each beat builds and comes together in a complete package. Look at a couple of dudes on their MPC’s and see how each style is completely different, and that’s based mostly on the samples and kits they are using...Tough…

We Just Wanna Be Successful..Or In the Zone, Whatever Works!

What defines success? Success is usually looked at as the ability to achieve a set goal. In our eyes, success comes from the ability to fail more times then succeed. Because although we may fail (boring venue, sound failure, bad mixing night, etc.), we become successful at learning from those mistakes, and the next step? Move on.. Guaranteed that out of all our failures, success will come of it..So when we do hit 1 bit of success out of 100 failures, we get in the zone! Be safe this weekend.... LOL..

For Soldiers Only!

Best believe, one of this years highly anticipated albums is "Soldier of Love," Sade's first studio recorded album in 10 years. Will it be one of the best albums to come out this year? Can't say for sure but based on just the hype of it all, it's possible. From just her first single, it's pretty clear that her earthy touch to her music is still there. That "reach out and touch the listener" skill is still intact and I doubt it's gonna be going anywhere. But best believe we're not the only ones looking forward to her album release next Monday, Feb.8th, worldwide. Look @ the line up for her upcoming shows. NUTS! She's back to the public grind! Welcome back... lol

So Easy, A Caveman Can Do It, Right?

Alot of times, people ask what dj'ing is like...Is it easy? Is it hard? In our opinion, it's hard! It's harder than people would imagine. Why? BCUZZZZ, there are more elements to spinning at an event than a person would think. For partygoer, you just come into the spot, grab a drink, dance, parlay, and dip. For the dj, you gotta be concerned with the sound, YOUR equipment (spilled drinks, power outtages, faulty wiring), and how people are responding to the music. At the end of the night, we're usually tired, but the job isn't done. Time to shut down, pack up, chit chat a little, and get set to do it again. It's a hassle, but it's a good type of hassle. lol. Some people might say, dj'ing takes nothing. "It's so easy, a caveman can do it!" We say, "oh, okay *(while walking away)*" ...lol..Good things good things..

Just Ain't Gonna Work Out

Gotta appreciate a new song every now and again. A little different from the usual, but def think it can be thrown into a nice mix. It has the feel of an old 60's band with a GOOD music type of flow... The song is by Mayer Hawthorne, "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out"... The video is just as good as the song in our opinion. Sidebar, check out homies swagger.lol... Funny but dope! Enjoy!

Chill, Be Easy... Things Get Better, TRUST!

True to life, there are so many reasons to be happy. If you can't think of a reason, consider this. IF you are reading this message, you're already 10 steps ahead of the person who can neither read, see, or type for that matter! View it as a blessing. So try to walk around with a smile and even if you can't, don't sweat it, just realize you're probably better off than ALOT of other people. AND, most things that you deal with now are temporary. All issues will pass by sooner or later so don't let them kill you... Some things to avoid making YOU unhappy are to avoid negative people (they're poisonous), compliment others, avoid gossip, and think happy thoughts.haha.. Now that we're done sounding like Dr. Phil, if all of those other things fail, there's always a good song to get things in perspective....Party tunes! LOL...

Here's a few new ones....

1.Put It In A Love Song- Alicia Keys feat. Beyonce
2.Henny & Bacardi- Cassidy feat. Swizz Beats
3.Tap It- Red Cafe feat. L'Orel
4.Beam Me Up Scotty- Nicki Minaj (actually a tough tune!)
5.Straight to the Dancefloor- Jamie Foxx

Okay, that will be all. Don't wanna give em all away!lol..Peace!

A Tale of Two...

Just thought we'd put it out there... The WHOLE album, "Music Fan First" by Eric Roberson is worth the listen. But, when we post a specific song, it's for a reason! Definitely catchy. And PLEASE, listen to the story line. A real creative catch on the beat... DOPE... Sidebar, it's a warm day, enjoy it, even if it's from the small window in the corner of your office! lol. Peace.

O yea, and honorable mention to the young lady, Wayna. Her album is popping too..!

Nuff Respect.

We give credit where credit is due. Big shoutout to Hot97's Dj. Mr Cee for playing straight Kompa, Zouk, etc for the enire tri-state for about a good hour. He has literally, set upon history for the station and for radio broadcasting alike. That's what music is about. That's what dj'ing is about. Breaking down barriers, overcoming boundaries, setting standards, and showing respect to all who listen. Not only was the music therapeutic to the Haitian community listening during this difficult time, but it also afforded people who have no clue what the music is about the opportunity to hear and appreciate it. Kudos Mr. Cee and Hot 97! Kudos.

On a serious note...

Although we like to have a good time, there's a level of seriousness that comes with the appropriate moment. We must send our condolences out to those who lost loved ones in Haiti. Whether you have loved ones, friends, family, or not in this country, this disaster should awaken us to the fact that life is precious and so are the people who are in it. Take nothing for granted today since nothing is guaranteed tomorrow! Again, our hearts go out to all affected by this tragedy...

Cool Kids Listen to House

Not to say that you're not cool if you don't like house music, but in our opinion, house music is essential to a party with a diverse crowd. Not techno (Greenhouse), not trance, not Baltimore club, not D-Town, etc etc music, I'm talking heavy bass, a few percussions, some drum, and a beautiful voice riding a beat. It's the type of music that you can either chill to at a lounge or dance to. How multi-talented is that.. lol. Depending on the crowd, you'll find that a large number of people can get down to some house. In general, New York has a huge house music following. Go to a Soul Summit event hosted at Fort Greene (bring a friend..lol.) during the summer, or go to Cielo on Little West 12th, or maybe go to a Target "First Saturday" event at the Brooklyn Museum (with the right dj that is..). You'll see what we're talking about. If you don't agree or don't know what I'm talking about, listen to a few of the posted songs and develop your own opinion. Partake!

Where are they now?

There's got to be a reason why some of the more talented female singers of yesteryear are no longer in the limelight. Honestly, some of the better songs that we rocked out to came from Amel Larrieux, Zhane, Jonell, Trina & Tamara, Mya, Tweet, Total, etc. I've gotta say, some of the songs that still keep a party moving today come from these young ladies. Nuff respect to them and hope they come up with some more reasons to dance. Not taking anything away from today's limelight talents, but I'm just saying, feeling nostalgic is all. lol.

Sidebar: It's brick out! lol.

The Dilemma- To Dance or Not to?

We make things pretty simple when it comes to playing at an event. If you're feeling the vibe, you WILL get up and dance. Those are the people who come away from an event with a smile on their face because they had FUN. If you're not feeling well, or if you hate the music, you will stand around with a frown and nudge your friends and say you want to leave. lol. Seen a few of those too.smh.. Either way is cool to us though. But here's a dilemma, what do you do if you're at your desk and you're feeling the vibe? Do you dance at your seat? Do you act like you're busy and stand up and do a little move?lol. Not sure? Me neither but I'm sure you're going to find out in a few minutes. Results not typical*...lol.. Enjoy!

Look Back In Time..

What's wrong with looking back in time? Nothing as long as you have both feet grounded in today and tomorrow. With that said, take a look at some of our earlier events. This is why our family is so large. We grow old together! Surround Soundz family in full effect. House Parties, Connecticut Grad Parties, New York Parties etc. Similarity in them all? Everyone had a good time.

Why don't you get lost... Not literally though..lol

No, we DO NOT do this for every event that comes up but once in awhile, sure, we will post an event or so. This one, we're posting because it's a new venue and what better way to reach out to extended and close family then here? Tell a friend to tell a friend to tell one more... Saturday, Jan. 16th, Surround Soundz presents GPS! "Get Paper Saturdays" @ TuSed Bar and Lounge, Onderdonk Ave. Ridgewood, Queens, 11385...Not sure where that is? Use that GPS! Yuuup...

Put Em On..I Think

So since we are advocates of "good" music, thought it would be fitting to put up 4 or 5 tunes that should peak your attention from artists NOT on the radio EVERYDAY as of now.

*Just Begun- Mos Def, Talib Kweli, J. Cole, Jay Electronica*
*Exhibit A- Jay Electronica*
*Losing My Balance- J.Cole*
*Sade- Soldier of Love*
*Diamond District- I Mean Business*
*Akil Dasan*

Just to name a few... Eh, just opinion though...

Let Me Just Say...

For the record, we are handling business as usual.. YEP! And turn down your speakers or put on headphones...lol.. IF you're in the office..

Yeah, we do that too...

Okay, so no, we don't just dj. And there's more to Surround Soundz then just music. GOOD MUSIC, excuse me. Since all of us are friends and family and we all have ideas, we throw thoughts at each other and some are a 'go' and others aren't. One concept we all agreed one was to try some hats. Why not...*shrugs shoulders*... Nothing wrong with having Surround Soundz on your mind sometimes... Creativity shot through the lens, courtesy of money man, Jon B.

All About Family- Thats who we are!

Peep the crowd!!!

Yes, we definitely do the music thing but a large part of our success comes from family. Alot of times, events that we either throw, host, or play for consist of friends from prior occassions. The more we see them, the more they become like our family and the roots grow deeper. Just a couple of posted pics from the last event and some family we've had with us since day 1.

A Quick History..Nothing Major..Promise

Surround Soundz, the entertainment service, started out 4 years ago with us mixing music at home, entertaining guests who'd come by for dinner or just to hang out. Random dinners and superbowl or all start games would turn into huge dance parties. (Think Union Street circa 02-06) For the unsuspecting guest, a "normal" evening at our houses would turn into one of the best parties they've gone to in awhile. Prior to actually going out and doing events, we've been mixing, remixing, and blending music since the late 90's. What makes us special is that we have a good time when we dj. It's less of a job and more of an experience for "our friends." Most times if not every, our prior clients become our friends and therefore, our network expands. There's nothing like making new friends and keeping up with old ones too. Going through alot of different circumstances while dj'ing (think power outages, rain storms, beligerent emcee's, perplexed lounge owners, etc), we've used these experiences to help others when deciding upon what type of venue is good for their event, when they should have it, along with what type of musical equipment should accompany it. All in all, we love good music, and we love to have a good time. So next time you're hosting an event, or even thinking about it, contact us. We'd love to hear from you!
