Fresh Music!

Putting up some songs that we think you should be familiar with! It's always good to keep fresh songs and fresh artists in your ears. Remember, life isn't always a party, but it can always be accompanied by good music for one. Enjoy!

So Easy, A Caveman Can Do It, Right?

Alot of times, people ask what dj'ing is like...Is it easy? Is it hard? In our opinion, it's hard! It's harder than people would imagine. Why? BCUZZZZ, there are more elements to spinning at an event than a person would think. For partygoer, you just come into the spot, grab a drink, dance, parlay, and dip. For the dj, you gotta be concerned with the sound, YOUR equipment (spilled drinks, power outtages, faulty wiring), and how people are responding to the music. At the end of the night, we're usually tired, but the job isn't done. Time to shut down, pack up, chit chat a little, and get set to do it again. It's a hassle, but it's a good type of hassle. lol. Some people might say, dj'ing takes nothing. "It's so easy, a caveman can do it!" We say, "oh, okay *(while walking away)*" ...lol..Good things good things..

Just Ain't Gonna Work Out

Gotta appreciate a new song every now and again. A little different from the usual, but def think it can be thrown into a nice mix. It has the feel of an old 60's band with a GOOD music type of flow... The song is by Mayer Hawthorne, "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out"... The video is just as good as the song in our opinion. Sidebar, check out homies swagger.lol... Funny but dope! Enjoy!

Chill, Be Easy... Things Get Better, TRUST!

True to life, there are so many reasons to be happy. If you can't think of a reason, consider this. IF you are reading this message, you're already 10 steps ahead of the person who can neither read, see, or type for that matter! View it as a blessing. So try to walk around with a smile and even if you can't, don't sweat it, just realize you're probably better off than ALOT of other people. AND, most things that you deal with now are temporary. All issues will pass by sooner or later so don't let them kill you... Some things to avoid making YOU unhappy are to avoid negative people (they're poisonous), compliment others, avoid gossip, and think happy thoughts.haha.. Now that we're done sounding like Dr. Phil, if all of those other things fail, there's always a good song to get things in perspective....Party tunes! LOL...

Here's a few new ones....

1.Put It In A Love Song- Alicia Keys feat. Beyonce
2.Henny & Bacardi- Cassidy feat. Swizz Beats
3.Tap It- Red Cafe feat. L'Orel
4.Beam Me Up Scotty- Nicki Minaj (actually a tough tune!)
5.Straight to the Dancefloor- Jamie Foxx

Okay, that will be all. Don't wanna give em all away!lol..Peace!

A Tale of Two...

Just thought we'd put it out there... The WHOLE album, "Music Fan First" by Eric Roberson is worth the listen. But, when we post a specific song, it's for a reason! Definitely catchy. And PLEASE, listen to the story line. A real creative catch on the beat... DOPE... Sidebar, it's a warm day, enjoy it, even if it's from the small window in the corner of your office! lol. Peace.

O yea, and honorable mention to the young lady, Wayna. Her album is popping too..!

Nuff Respect.

We give credit where credit is due. Big shoutout to Hot97's Dj. Mr Cee for playing straight Kompa, Zouk, etc for the enire tri-state for about a good hour. He has literally, set upon history for the station and for radio broadcasting alike. That's what music is about. That's what dj'ing is about. Breaking down barriers, overcoming boundaries, setting standards, and showing respect to all who listen. Not only was the music therapeutic to the Haitian community listening during this difficult time, but it also afforded people who have no clue what the music is about the opportunity to hear and appreciate it. Kudos Mr. Cee and Hot 97! Kudos.

On a serious note...

Although we like to have a good time, there's a level of seriousness that comes with the appropriate moment. We must send our condolences out to those who lost loved ones in Haiti. Whether you have loved ones, friends, family, or not in this country, this disaster should awaken us to the fact that life is precious and so are the people who are in it. Take nothing for granted today since nothing is guaranteed tomorrow! Again, our hearts go out to all affected by this tragedy...

Cool Kids Listen to House

Not to say that you're not cool if you don't like house music, but in our opinion, house music is essential to a party with a diverse crowd. Not techno (Greenhouse), not trance, not Baltimore club, not D-Town, etc etc music, I'm talking heavy bass, a few percussions, some drum, and a beautiful voice riding a beat. It's the type of music that you can either chill to at a lounge or dance to. How multi-talented is that.. lol. Depending on the crowd, you'll find that a large number of people can get down to some house. In general, New York has a huge house music following. Go to a Soul Summit event hosted at Fort Greene (bring a friend..lol.) during the summer, or go to Cielo on Little West 12th, or maybe go to a Target "First Saturday" event at the Brooklyn Museum (with the right dj that is..). You'll see what we're talking about. If you don't agree or don't know what I'm talking about, listen to a few of the posted songs and develop your own opinion. Partake!

Where are they now?

There's got to be a reason why some of the more talented female singers of yesteryear are no longer in the limelight. Honestly, some of the better songs that we rocked out to came from Amel Larrieux, Zhane, Jonell, Trina & Tamara, Mya, Tweet, Total, etc. I've gotta say, some of the songs that still keep a party moving today come from these young ladies. Nuff respect to them and hope they come up with some more reasons to dance. Not taking anything away from today's limelight talents, but I'm just saying, feeling nostalgic is all. lol.

Sidebar: It's brick out! lol.

The Dilemma- To Dance or Not to?

We make things pretty simple when it comes to playing at an event. If you're feeling the vibe, you WILL get up and dance. Those are the people who come away from an event with a smile on their face because they had FUN. If you're not feeling well, or if you hate the music, you will stand around with a frown and nudge your friends and say you want to leave. lol. Seen a few of those too.smh.. Either way is cool to us though. But here's a dilemma, what do you do if you're at your desk and you're feeling the vibe? Do you dance at your seat? Do you act like you're busy and stand up and do a little move?lol. Not sure? Me neither but I'm sure you're going to find out in a few minutes. Results not typical*...lol.. Enjoy!

Look Back In Time..

What's wrong with looking back in time? Nothing as long as you have both feet grounded in today and tomorrow. With that said, take a look at some of our earlier events. This is why our family is so large. We grow old together! Surround Soundz family in full effect. House Parties, Connecticut Grad Parties, New York Parties etc. Similarity in them all? Everyone had a good time.

Why don't you get lost... Not literally though..lol

No, we DO NOT do this for every event that comes up but once in awhile, sure, we will post an event or so. This one, we're posting because it's a new venue and what better way to reach out to extended and close family then here? Tell a friend to tell a friend to tell one more... Saturday, Jan. 16th, Surround Soundz presents GPS! "Get Paper Saturdays" @ TuSed Bar and Lounge, Onderdonk Ave. Ridgewood, Queens, 11385...Not sure where that is? Use that GPS! Yuuup...

Put Em On..I Think

So since we are advocates of "good" music, thought it would be fitting to put up 4 or 5 tunes that should peak your attention from artists NOT on the radio EVERYDAY as of now.

*Just Begun- Mos Def, Talib Kweli, J. Cole, Jay Electronica*
*Exhibit A- Jay Electronica*
*Losing My Balance- J.Cole*
*Sade- Soldier of Love*
*Diamond District- I Mean Business*
*Akil Dasan*

Just to name a few... Eh, just opinion though...

Let Me Just Say...

For the record, we are handling business as usual.. YEP! And turn down your speakers or put on headphones...lol.. IF you're in the office..

Yeah, we do that too...

Okay, so no, we don't just dj. And there's more to Surround Soundz then just music. GOOD MUSIC, excuse me. Since all of us are friends and family and we all have ideas, we throw thoughts at each other and some are a 'go' and others aren't. One concept we all agreed one was to try some hats. Why not...*shrugs shoulders*... Nothing wrong with having Surround Soundz on your mind sometimes... Creativity shot through the lens, courtesy of money man, Jon B.

All About Family- Thats who we are!

Peep the crowd!!!

Yes, we definitely do the music thing but a large part of our success comes from family. Alot of times, events that we either throw, host, or play for consist of friends from prior occassions. The more we see them, the more they become like our family and the roots grow deeper. Just a couple of posted pics from the last event and some family we've had with us since day 1.

A Quick History..Nothing Major..Promise

Surround Soundz, the entertainment service, started out 4 years ago with us mixing music at home, entertaining guests who'd come by for dinner or just to hang out. Random dinners and superbowl or all start games would turn into huge dance parties. (Think Union Street circa 02-06) For the unsuspecting guest, a "normal" evening at our houses would turn into one of the best parties they've gone to in awhile. Prior to actually going out and doing events, we've been mixing, remixing, and blending music since the late 90's. What makes us special is that we have a good time when we dj. It's less of a job and more of an experience for "our friends." Most times if not every, our prior clients become our friends and therefore, our network expands. There's nothing like making new friends and keeping up with old ones too. Going through alot of different circumstances while dj'ing (think power outages, rain storms, beligerent emcee's, perplexed lounge owners, etc), we've used these experiences to help others when deciding upon what type of venue is good for their event, when they should have it, along with what type of musical equipment should accompany it. All in all, we love good music, and we love to have a good time. So next time you're hosting an event, or even thinking about it, contact us. We'd love to hear from you!
